Kaufland supermarket proposed just metres from new Aldi in Coburg North
An Aldi just opened up there this year and now another German supermarket giant is planning on moving in next door in Coburg North. Here’s where it’s hoping to set up its massive new store and what it will mean for shoppers.

Shoppers in Coburg North will have two choices in German supermarkets within 150 metres if a proposal from Kaufland is successful.
The supermarket giant has announced plans to build 14 stores in Victoria, with nine set to be reviewed by an independent panel before being decided on by the State Government.
The Leader can reveal Kaufland has picked out 932 Sydney Rd as the location for its Coburg North store, just metres from newly opened Aldi at 1009-1011 Sydney Rd.
The long-awaited Aldi opened on May 29.
The proposed Kaufland site is currently a Van World service centre.
Kaufland Australia managing director Julia Kern said the family owned supermarket was keen to tap into the Australian market.

“Our aim is to raise the bar in retail excellence and provide an uncompromising quality food shop for our customers,” she said.
“We are committed to long term, sustainable investment in Victoria.”
Other sites earmarked in the expansion include Braybrook, South Morang, Geelong and Warrnambool.
Kaufland stores generally sit at 4,000sq m.
No date has been set for the panel decision.
