A kangaroo who sustained horrific injuries after being shot with an arrow in Melbourne has died.
The animal, nicknamed Frank, had been recuperating at a Trentham wildlife shelter after he was shot through the leg with an arrow at Lysterfield Lake in Melbourne’s southeast.
Despite best efforts, wildlife rescuer Manfred Zabinskas said the injuries the kangaroo had sustained were just too great and he died on Monday.
Another wound to the neck, believed to have been from the same attack, affected Frank’s ability to eat, drink and swallow.
“I can’t understand why anyone would do this. It’s barbaric,” he said.
“The person must have known he would inflict horrible suffering. This is intentionally causing an animal pain and suffering”
Mr Zabinskas called on people to be vigilant in parks and bushland.
“Someone out there has to know something,” he said.
“We’re asking those people to stand up and say something.”

Wildlife rescuer Sue Johnston, who was part of the crew that discovered Frank, told the Leader last week he had been in a lot of pain for a long time.
“He was in a lot of pain when we got there,” she said.
“When we sedated him and even at the vet, he was still writhing in pain.”
