TALKS have already started on making the old Victoria University site at Jacksons Hill in Sunbury “a cornerstone” of the town.
And an ideas workshop for the Sunbury community has been announced for February 28.
Site tenants last week met Victorian Planning Authority representatives to discuss the future of Jacksons Hill, which key Sunbury advocates and tenants have long-pushed to remain an education hub.
An arts and cultural precinct has also been mooted.
The meetings come after 150 submissions were made to the Sunbury South and Lancefield Rd Precinct Structure Plans.
VPA regional lead director Tim Peggie said the VPA would “now review all submissions and try to resolve any issues raised, before the two plans go before a planning panel in coming months”.
Sunbury Historical and Family Society president Peter Free said his group, as a Jacksons Hill tenant, met VPA officials last Wednesday.

AUTHORITY TO DRIVE JACKSONS HILL VISION
Other tenants at the site include Boilerhouse Theatre Company, Sunbury Radio, Sunbury Primary School and Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School.
Mr Free said the site was best suited to education.
“Most Sunbury organisations and residents are consistent over what should happen up there, and that’s that it should be re-established as an education precinct,” he said.
Mr Free said the VPA indicated there would be a decision on the site’s future within six months.
Planning Minister Richard Wynne told the Leader the VPA would hold a workshop for people to meet the project team, learn about the online platform and hear from specialist architects.
“It’s clear the Sunbury community cares deeply about the Jacksons Hill site,” he said.
“It’s a picturesque location, and we want it to have a great future.”
Sunbury state Labor MP Josh Bull said “we’re going to ensure Jacksons Hill becomes a cornerstone of our town, which everyone can be proud of”.
“This is an important milestone in what has been a big win for the community,” he said.
“I share the determination, drive and passion of so many Sunbury residents, who are so keen to see Jacksons Hill transformed.”
