Mohamud Farah fronts court for alleged sexual assault on Maidstone woman

A man who allegedly yelled and banged on a Maidstone woman’s front door in the early hours then sexually assaulted her when she confronted him has made a bid for release so he can work as a “head chef”. But the magistrate didn’t buy it.

A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at her Maidstone home has been deemed an “unacceptable risk” to the community.

Mohamud Farah, 30, fronted Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on March 11 seeking bail for several charges including two counts of sexually assault.

Police alleged Farah banged on his victim’s unit door and yelled loudly on December 5 last year.

The woman woke and went outside to confront Farah just before 3am, the court heard.

“Hey lady, I want to f***,” Farah allegedly said.

It’s alleged Farah committed lewd acts on the woman then pushed her to the ground.

The attack ended after Farah’s “unknown acquaintance” ordered him to leave.

The victim gave a description of her alleged attacker to police.

Farah was arrested a short time after with a bank card and a working with children card stolen from a car in his possession.

The court heard Farah was also involved in a brawl at Braybrook’s Ashley Hotel in 2015.

Farah was first refused bail on December 5.

He relied on a “new set of facts and circumstances” to be considered for release again.

Farah, through his counsel, said he would work as a “head chef” with his brother when released.

He also said he would live at his family’s Braybrook home.

Farah – who hasn’t worked since 2017 because of “alcohol abuse” – couldn’t provide evidence of any chef qualifications, nor did he say where he would be working.

Additionally, the address where he said he would live if released is the same address recorded on the Maidstone sexual assault charge sheet, the court heard.

Farah also denied he was the alleged sex attacker.

His counsel said the “identification evidence” was in dispute.

The victim’s description matched Farah’s age, height and skin colour but there was a slight disparity as to the colour of his jumper, the court heard.

Magistrate Mike Wardell said Farah’s last-minute chef work offer “seems quite convenient”.

“Your risk of reoffending … is too greater risk to justify bail,” Magistrate Wardell said.

“You do pose an unacceptable risk.”

Farah – who appeared via videolink – was remanded to face court at a later date.

Farah’s matters were delayed after he was bitten by a spider shortly after going into custody.
