A new camping craze sweeping the nation could be on its way to sleepy Diggers Rest.
Glamping is a type of camping involving facilities and accommodation much more luxurious than a traditional camping set-up.
The application for nine glamping tents with shower and toilet facilities along Holden Rd is being advertised on the Melton Council website. If approved, the development would be an addition to the restaurant and winery at Russo Estate.

Owner Joe Russo said Diggers Rest had untapped tourism potential.
“Through conversations with council and clients that have been to our premises, they’ve put forward the request for accommodation,” he said.
“We felt that there’s a good market for us to move forward with and create some additional tourism for the area.”
Diggers Rest resident David O’Connor said while the proposal would have to work through the council processes, he saw the potential for increased tourism in the area.
“Given there’s limited opportunities for green wedge landowners within the Diggers Rest region, this would provide the applicant with a sustainable option for some worthwhile outcomes for Diggers Rest,” he said.
Mr Russo confirmed the company had applied for seven standard accommodation rooms and two honeymoon suites.
The proposal comes on the back of renewed interest in developing the Diggers Rest Hotel, which has sat unused since a fire in 2008.
“It seems, in my view, there is some sort of potential for increased tourism opportunities in Diggers Rest based on the level of movement in the camping and caravanning field,” Mr O’Connor said.
The glamping application at 760 Holden Rd is open for public comment on the Melton Council website at bit.ly/2Ijz8sM.
