A pair of cowardly burglars have stolen an electric wheelchair from a disabled Craigieburn woman.
CCTV footage shows a man and a woman loitering at the front of the Southern Cres for a couple of minutes before police say they forced their way in about 6am on December 12.
The duo were captured trying to block the camera lens before the vision becomes obscured as police allege they take the $7000 scooter out the front door.
Police believe the wheelchair was either ridden or driven from the property.
Hume detective Senior Constable Shae Morrison described it as a “low act” and said the victim needed the wheelchair permanently to get around.
“It’s a pretty horrible thing to happen at the best of times but let alone this close to Christmas,” he said.
Sen-Constable Morrison said officers were determined to find and return the stolen chair so the woman didn’t have to spend thousands on a new one.
The pair initially rang the doorbell and when there was no answer they went to the back of the house and broke in.
Once inside they stole jewellery, electric appliances and the electric mobility wheelchair before leaving.
No one was home at the time.
The scooter has a joystick on the right armrest that controls the chair.
