Dulux’s $165 million paint factory in Mickleham to open later this year

DULUX will paint the town with more than 70 jobs when it opens a $165 million factory in Melbourne’s north later this year — the largest of its kind in Australia and New Zealand.

ABOUT 70 jobs will be created when a new $165 million Dulux paint factory opens at the Merrifield Business Park in Mickleham later this year.

In 2015, Dulux was the first business to announce it would take up an occupancy at the 330-hectare business park, which is near Donnybrook Rd and the Hume Highway, on the border of the Hume and Whittlesea council areas.

Construction of the $1.2 billion commercial precinct started in September that year and is projected to create more than 20,000 jobs.

The new 22,600sq m Dulux Merrifield water-based paint manufacturing site is set to become the largest coatings plant in Australia and New Zealand. It is set to open for production around October.

Dulux Merrifield operations manager David King said the ASX-listed company had chosen to relocate the majority of its water-based manufacturing to Mickleham, from its site in Brisbane.

“We chose Merrifield for a number of reasons, including its strategic location on the Hume Highway and connectivity to the Eastern Seaboard,” he said.

“The fact that the Merrifield Business Park is part of a mixed use community with a city centre and residential aspect resonated with us.

“We could see the potential for us to be in the community over the long term.

“With Merrifield being in a growth area, we can grow with the community.”

Mr King said once the new site became operational, it would employ up to 70 people.

“It is expected that the majority of personnel employed will be new to the business, with recruitment processes commencing mid-March,” he said.
