A driver accused of giving a fake name after hitting a small child is on the run in a car bearing false number plates.
Police are investigating after the six-year-old boy was struck by a car in Epping about 8.30pm on March 9.
Police believe the boy got out of a car parked on Brush Rd and walked towards the front of the vehicle and onto the road where he was hit by a white Nissan Patrol bearing NSW registration plates DCA 86E.
The driver of the Nissan stopped at the scene and provided his details but left before police arrived.
The boy, from Epping, was later taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A police spokeswoman said checks revealed the personal details provided by the driver were incorrect.
The number plates attached to the Nissan Patrol have also since been identified as belonging to a different vehicle.
The driver has been described as a caucasian man in his late 20s with scruffy hair and a short beard.
