Schoolkids have rallied outside Bill Shorten’s office on Friday calling for stronger action on climate change — and plan to bunk off school every Friday for the next month.
Students from Castlemaine bunked school and travelled to Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten’s office in Moonee Ponds today, to protest against climate change and the controversial Adani coalmine.

They called on Mr Shorten to commit to halting mining at Adani before this year’s Federal Election.
Mr Shorten was in Sydney today, but spokeswoman Joanne Cleary said he “would be happy to arrange a meeting in the future”.
Charlie Wood escorted the students to Moonee Ponds, and said the students would strike from school every Friday ahead of the March 15 global climate strike when school students in 40 countries will walk out of school for the day demanding urgent climate action from their political leaders.
The school kids made their way into Mr Shorten’s office and chanted “Stop Adani, stop, stop Adani”.
Castlemaine Primary student Callum Bridgefoot then called Mr Shorten’s mobile and left a message telling him that by not stopping Adani he was “destroying” their future.
Castlemaine High School student Harriet O’Shea Carre, 14, said she “really” wanted to speak to Mr Shorten.
“We feel like we really need to do something. An election is coming up and neither of the major parties have a plan to stop the climate emergency which starts with stopping coal projects like Adani,” she said.
