Cr Moore told the Leader she was “really excited” to step into the top job.
“I think it’s really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said.
“I’ve always lived here. Everyone who is really important to me lives here too. I want Hume to be the best place it can be.”
She said infrastructure, innovative financial management and cleaning up Hume were among her top priorities.
“When I grew up in Craigieburn, there was a different level of pride taken in the appearance of the city,” Cr Moore said.
“I find it really frustrating when I’m driving and I see someone who has put a microwave on their front lawn.”
An accountant by trade, Cr Moore was elected to the council at the 2016 election and has served as deputy mayor for the past year.
Fellow councillors paid tribute to their new mayor’s passion for community.
Cr Moore also paid tribute to her little sister, who she said encouraged her to run for the council.
“She was the person who prompted me to run for council in the first instance when she wasn’t going to run again,” Cr Moore said.
“She was really keen to know the council was in safe hands, so she encouraged me to run.”
New deputy mayor Cr Naim Kurt was elected to the council alongside Cr Moore in 2016. He thanked the commmunity and supporters for the ongoing encouragement.
“It’s an incredible honour to be chosen as deputy mayor of Hume City Council by my fellow councillors … it’s a community I feel very closely to, very strongly to,” he said.
“She (Cr Moore) experiences a lot of the issues our community is experiencing at the moment. She’s a young mother, has a young family and lives in a growth corridor.”
