A beloved Broadmeadows dad has been remembered as an “awesome bloke” who died doing what he loved.
Jesse Atwell spent Boxing Day riding his BMX.
He had a crash and was flown from the track to the intensive care unit at The Alfred Hospital with severe head injuries.
Doctors said he would have severe brain damage if he survived the accident.
Mr Atwell died one week after the accident.
He is mourned by his partner Indy and his stepchildren Ebony and Roman
Tributes poured in across social media for the Keilor Downs dad-of-two.
He was remembered as a loyal friend who was always there to help those in need.
Mr Atwell was a major part of the Park4MX track in Broadmeadows where he helped run the business and train emerging BMX talents.
Cheyne Boyd wrote he was “absolutely heartbroken” over the loss of his best mate and “right-hand man” with the pair being close on and off the track.
Brett James said: “Jesse is an awesome bloke, always willing to lend a hand where possible at the track. He’s a part of our crew with our young up-and-comers with our small group that always has our young kids practising together.”
The Park4MX team added: “We are heartbroken and devastated, but know that Jesse would want us to always be positive and keep pushing.”
A GoFundMe has been started to help provide financial support to Mr Atwell’s family and to help cover funeral costs, bills and other expenses.
The fundraiser broke past its $20,000 goal and reached $21,860 at the time of writing. Donations can be made to the fundraiser here.
