Virus infections in Brimbank have almost doubled to more than 400 active cases in the past week despite strict lockdown restrictions.
As of Friday, 436 active cases were detected across the municipality, up from 238 last week.
Of those, 62 were linked to JBS abattoir in Brooklyn, and 68 cases were traced to the Estia Health aged care home in Ardeer.
This comes as the Victorian rise in live cases reached 3734 according to new Department of Health and Human Services figures, with 41 people in intensive care.
Masks are now compulsory across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, with people liable to be slapped with a $200 fine if caught outside without a mask.

Stage 3 restrictions remain in force across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, despite fears the State Government would move to clamp down further on the virus’s spread by imposing harsher measures.
Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton said the stay at home restrictions, which permit people to leave their homes for four reasons including care and care giving, exercise, and work or study if it can’t be done from home, were absolutely necessary to control the virus.
“These restrictions have become necessary because of the sharp increase in cases,” Prof Sutton said.
“These are tough measures but the virus is not selective, it will impact anyone it encounters and personal contact is the clear source of its transmission. We need everyone to do their part and ensure it is stopped in its tracks.”
