Ava takes on the World’s Greatest Shave
It was the donation a year in the making, as Sunbury primary school student Ava Lethlean chopped her hair for the World’s Greatest Shave. And she had three great reasons for doing so.

Ava Lethlean may only be nine, but she has more patience that most adults having waited a full year to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave.
Ava’s mother Nicole Lethlean said she had given her daughter permission to take part in the fundraiser last year but asked her to wait 12 months to make sure she still wanted to do it.
“I said I’ve give her a year to think about it and that’s all she talked about for the whole year,” she said.
Run by the Leukaemia Foundation, the World’s Greatest Shave is now in its 22nd year.
Money raised goes towards supporting Australians with blood cancer.
Ava said she has three reasons why she wanted do shave her hair.
“I’m shaving my head for all those people who are insecure because they don’t have any hair and I thought a wig might make them feel better about themselves,” she said.

“Last year, a family member was diagnosed with bowel cancer, I’m doing it for him as well.
“And a friend of mine cut her hair short and she was bullied by boys who said she looked like a boy and couldn’t go into the girl’s bathroom.”
Ava’s father, Chris, has also shaved his head in solidarity.
Although the big shave has been done, the Ava will continue to fundraise online until winter. She has already surpassed her initial goal of $1000, sitting on $1552 as of March 30.
