Macedon Ranges tourist hot spots have closed to the public as the council moves to discourage groups gathering and ignoring social distancing rules.
Macedon Ranges Council has restricted access to the popular sites after groups continued to gather despite COVID-19 government restrictions at the weekend.
Roads have been closed by police to Mount Macedon’s Memorial Cross after hundreds ignored state and federal warns to stay home.
Nearby gardens and parks have also been shut.
Macedon Ranges chief executive Margot Stork said it was disappointing visitors flouted warning and continued to come to the area.
“We are all for people getting some fresh air and exercise, but there is no need for tourists to travel long distances to the area to do so,” she said.
“Normally we welcome visitors but with the current pandemic it is not appropriate.
“The advice is quite clear – stay home and stay safe.”
Hanging Rock has been closed indefinitely and will not be open to residents or visitors over the school holiday period.
All access by car or foot is not allowed.

Thousands of tourists also usually visit the Avenue of Honour in Macedon to see the autumn leaves.
Clear signage has been placed to discourage viewing this year.
Victoria police will make frequent patrols to these hot spots with on-the-spot fines for individuals and businesses breaking gathering rules.
Large road signs have been installed over the weekend on the Calder Freeway to inform motorists of the changes.
