An accused drink driver has been caught more than five times over the limit with a five-year-old girl unrestrained in the back seat.
As part of a statewide long weekend road crackdown, police also nabbed two alleged drink drivers from the same car after they both admitted they had been behind the wheel and had swapped over as driver and passenger.
Public Order Response Team officers were on patrol in Altona North when they noticed a Holden Trax being driven erratically on the West Gate Freeway about 2.45pm on Sunday.
Police pulled over the driver, a 35-year-old Deer Park man, who allegedly returned an evidentiary breath test result of .263.
Senior Constable Adam West said the man was travelling with an “improperly restrained five-year-old girl” in the back seat.
“His car was immediately impounded with towing costs of $896.20 and he is to be charged on summons for drink driving and other traffic offences,” Sen-Constable West said.
On Saturday, two men, from Strathmore and Seddon, were both allegedly caught drink driving from the same car when they were pulled over by police leaving a service station in Malvern about 12.45am.
Leading Senior Constable Melissa Seach said the men “told police they had both been driving the car and had swapped over as driver and passenger”.
“A 25-year-old Strathmore man returned a blood alcohol concentration of .135 and received a $702 infringement notice and had his licence suspended,” she said.
“A 25-year-old Seddon man returned a blood alcohol concentration of .155 and had his licence suspended.”
He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.
