Victoria Police arrest Deer Park man after Moonee Ponds pursuit

A fourth man has been charged in relation to a horror crash in Moonee Ponds last month that left witnesses terrified after a gun was allegedly fired multiple times.

The 32-year-old Cranbourne man was arrested on Friday afternoon following an investigation by Victoria Police’s Echo Taskforce and the Maribyrnong Criminal Investigation Unit, who are appealing for any witnesses to the terrifying incident.

The incident occurred on the morning of Christmas Eve, where witnesses reported hearing gunshots as a Toyota RAV4 pursued a silver Volkswagen Passat through Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

The Toyota – allegedly stolen from Thornbury between November 19 and 20 – rammed into another car and crashed into several others about 7.30am on December 24.

Just before 7.30am the allegedly stolen vehicle collided head-on with another motorist after running a red light while travelling on the incorrect side of Bell Street in Coburg.

The collision left one of the drivers in a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The man has been charged with a range of firearm offences, including use of a firearm in a dangerous manner, reckless conduct endangering life and a contravention of bail conditions.

This comes after a 34-year-old man from Port Melbourne, a 24-year-old from Deer Park and a 23-year-old from Cranbourne were arrested and charged in relation to the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information on the men involved is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au.
