Wentworth lotto win: 10 winners of $40m Powerball draw from Vic/NSW border town

Wentworth, a town on the Victorian/NSW border, is home to about 1500 people — and it’s now also home to 10 multi-millionaires who won the Powerball $40m jackpot.

A group of lucky residents from a small town on the Victorian and NSW border have become instant multi-millionaires after their syndicate took out the $40m Powerball jackpot.

The 10 players from the town of Wentworth — population 1500 — each pocketed $4,051,773.90

The owner of Wentworth newsagency that sold the winning ticket, Rowan Congress, said she was stunned, but ecstatic, the winners were locals.

“Oh, that’s beautiful” she said.

“That’s great news for Wentworth. We’re in the middle of nowhere.

“We’ve only been here for two years and this is the first division one win we’ve sold. How great that it’s a syndicate and lots of people get to share the prize.”

One of the winners, who so far didn’t want to be named, told officials from the Lott, she was excited to join the millionaires club

I just had a look! I can’t believe it, That really good” she said.

“We’re only a small town and it’s crazy to think there’s now 10 multi-millionaires here.”

Some members of the winning NSW syndicate may have yet to realise their good fortune, prompting lottery officials to urge players to check their tickets as soon as possible.

Mark Corless, who runs a shop in town, said there was a lot of chatter on Facebook over who the winners could be.

“It’s a little bit of a lift for the town; it’s been a pretty tough time like it has been for a lot of smaller towns,’’ he said.

“We’re coming off the back of the floods last year, which had a big impact, plus Covid.

“It appears that not everyone person in the syndicate is aware they have won, so if they having trouble find them, I’ll do my bit and put my hand up.”
