A Mildura man has made a gruesome discovery after finding a cat, cut in half, in the middle of a children’s playground in northwest Victoria.
Teo Tai Shi was walking through the park, near his home, on Monday morning when he found the shocking find.
“I noticed some colour on the lawn in the playground so I went on over to it,” he said.
“As I approached I could tell it was a dead cat.”
Mr Shi said he was shocked.
“I was in a rush to get to work but I took a photo as evidence and posted on a community page looking for advice,” he said.
“I knew that I had to do something for this poor life.”
People were outraged by the act of cruelty with most suggesting the incident be reported to police and RSPCA, which Mr Shi plans to do.
“This is criminal and whoever did it needs to pay the price,” he said.
“It’s sick to do this and then to leave it in a park.”
Mr Shi is also concerned about other animals and he fears for pet owners in the region.
“The locals need to know about this as I see many cats walking around Mildura,” he said.
Victoria had 53 successful persecutions of animal cruelty and 324 charges laid for the same offence last year.
According to Victorian law, the offence of animal cruelty is punishable by a fine of up to $40,297.50 or 12 months‘ imprisonment.
A police spokesperson said the incident was yet to be reported to police.
