A Mildura woman could spend her 30th birthday in jail after being found with drugs with a $10,000 street value.

Sofia Mammone, 29, pleaded guilty at Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 30, to charges including trafficking methylamphetamine and possessing a controlled weapon.

An application for bail at the court the previous day was denied.

Police told the court a large wooden hunting knife and a taser were located during search of Mammone’s home on February 13.

During a another search on March 19, police said a total of 22.51 grams of illicit drugs – including methylamphetamine – were found.

The drugs were said to have an approximate street value of more than $10,000.

Police also seized $105, believed to be the proceeds of crime, and 600 small zip-lock bags, which matched the description of the bags containing drugs.

Mammone’s phone revealed “many” messages offering sale of methylamphetamine.

Her lawyer said she had shown “good prospects” while on a community corrections order but it was unfortunate there had been new offending.

The lawyer said she was unemployed and living alone in a unit.

Mammone’s mother told the court her daughter needed to change her life “before we lose her”.

“It kills me that she’s here right now,” her mother said.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan asked Mammone if she wanted to spend her 30th birthday in June in a prison cell.

“It’s a shocking, shocking drug, because it’s got you at the moment,” Mr Coghlan said.

Mr Coghlan said he was considering a combination of imprisonment and rehabilitation.
