A Curlwaa man has been accused of firing a shotgun during a heated altercation on a Mildura street, with bystanders and young people nearby, a court has heard.
Shaun Harper, a yard worker at Pickering’s Transport, was granted bail on Friday at Mildura Magistrates’ Court on several charges related to a confrontation between two groups of people where he was accused of discharging a firearm.
Police claimed Mr Harper was clad in a mask, gloves and a jacket when he allegedly fired the shotgun.
The court heard Mr Harper was allegedly seen on CCTV with the firearm in his hands at the time of the confrontation between two groups of people.
The alleged incident garnered significant attention on social media, with multiple people reportedly filming the altercation.
A search of Mr Harper’s property allegedly uncovered clothes from the incident, drugs, a 38 calibre pistol, and shells for 12 gauge shotgun.
Police also claimed there was evidence of a shotgun being fired at the roof of the property.
The shotgun allegedly used in the incident has not been found
Mr Harper was granted bail by Magistrate Patrick Southey, who said the delay before Mr Harper would appear in court again was a compelling factor to grant bail.
“The delays are just intolerable,” Mr Southey said.
Mr Harper was bailed to his parents’ address in Wentworth and given a strict curfew along with a condition to report three times a week at Dareton police station.
His next scheduled appearance is a committal mention on January 29.
