A 20-year-old Mildura woman has been told she is on her last chance as she was granted bail while she awaits her day in court on multiple theft and drug possession charges
Police prosecution were against Shaniqua Kirby-Wightman receiving bail, arguing she was an unacceptable risk and could potentially fail to appear in court.
A Court Integrated Services Program (CISP) report, however, played a crucial role in securing bail for the accused.
Ms Kirby-Wightman appeared via AV link after being arrested following her latest alleged criminal escapades.
The court heard Ms Kirby-Wightman allegedly stole several cars, numerous bank cards, ID documents, as well as goods from various businesses around Mildura in an alleged four month crime rampage at the start of 2024.
She was also allegedly found with a syringe full of methylamphetamine and has been accused of aggravated burglary.
Despite opposition from the prosecution, Magistrate Michael Coghlan intimated he was swayed by a compelling CISP report handed to him right as proceedings began.
Mr Coghlan highlighted the fact Ms Kirby-Wightman’s alleged crimes had escalated since the beginning of the year, before addressing her directly saying, “You are out of control young lady.”
“Notwithstanding I have very significant concerns … I have decided to grant you bail,” he continued
The magistrate finished up with a stern warning to the accused, “If you mess up, I will not grant you bail again.”
Ms Kirby-Wightman was bailed until her next appearance at Mildura Magistrates Court on May 21.
