A Swan Hill man who went missing in late March and was discovered dead in the Norman River in Outback Queensland the following day will have a memorial service at Swan Hill Jockey Club held in his memory.

Dylan Leschke, 33, a metal fabricator by trade and passionate fisherman and hunter, was last seen by his partner’s father walking his dogs on the Monday morning, before his car was discovered abandoned near the Jim Whyte Bridge.

A police search found his body in the waters of the croc-infested river at 7.10pm the following day.

Now just weeks after Mr Leschke’s tragic death passing, his family is preparing to give him a final goodbye at the Swan Hill Jockey Club.

Billed as a celebration of his life, the service kicks off at 1.30pm on Wednesday, April 24.

A GoFundMe has been put together to support his family, with any excess funds going to support Mr Leschke’s son, Riv.

The fundraiser has been organised by Mr Leschke’s cousin, Nikkiema Salathiel who says the family has been, “overwhelmed with the response so far. It’s just so touching.”

“He was such a big presence in the community here (Swan Hill) and in Normanton and everyone has been so generous in helping us via the GoFundMe,” Ms Salathiel said.

The money is being set aside to help the Swan Hill family deal with the various costs such as bringing Mr Leschke’s body home.

The GoFundMe has so far raised more than $20,000.

Queensland Police told the Herald Sun on Friday they were unable to give any updates on the circumstances surrounding Mr Lechke’s death as they were preparing a report for the coroner.
