A jobless Mildura meth head brutally assaulted a woman and then told police she made it up to get him in trouble, a court has heard.

Ryan Fiebig, 32, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to charges including recklessly causing injury and strangulation, intentionally causing injury.

Fiebig assaulted the woman on no less than three separate occasions, causing serious injuries each time.

On one occasion, Fiebig threw the woman out of a door and down some stairs after smashing a hair dryer and throwing a broken piece in her face.

On another occasion, Fiebig attempted to strangle the victim by grabbing her around the neck and squeezing so hard she was in fear for her life.

Police claimed a forensic nurse checked over the alleged victim after the February assault and found further injuries to the woman.

Fiebig was interviewed by police and told them he remembered the July and December incidents, but stopped short of incriminating himself.

Fiebig initially denied the February incident to police, telling them the woman had inflicted injuries on herself to get him into trouble.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan slammed Fiebig’s behaviour and told him if it wasn’t for his guilty plea, he would have received a 15 month prison sentence.

“You don’t seem to have got the message that engaging in this sort of behaviour against a female is unacceptable,” Mr Coghlan said.

Fiebig was sentenced to a total effective sentence of eight months behind bars, followed by an 18 month community corrections order to begin once he is released.

With 29 days reckoned as pre-sentence detention, Fiebig can expect to be released in early October.
