A routine court matter descended into high farce as several supporters of a man facing low level charges disrupted the matter and had to be led from the building by police.
Raymond Pavilach was scheduled to appear in Mildura Magistrates Court on Tuesday, facing charges of driving while unregistered, littering, and failing to give way on Thirteenth Street in Mildura.
The farce began shortly after the case was called when a woman, who identified herself only as Melanie appeared at the bar table to represent Pavilach.
After some back and forth with Magistrate Michael Coghlan, it was determined that “Melanie” had no legal standing to represent Pavilach. Mr Coghlan asked her several times to remove herself from the bar table. The woman became increasingly agitated and refused to leave the table.
Security was eventually called, and Melanie was forcibly removed from the court by security with the assistance of the police.
Bemused looks were shared by those in the body of the court as Melanie shrieked, “trespass, trespass, trespass,” as she was being led away.
Mr Coghlan tried in vain to get the hearing back on track, but Pavilach refused to identify himself despite Melanie confirming his presence.
The decision was made to hear the case ex-parte in an attempt to conclude proceedings. However, another person from the accused’s entourage, named David, interrupted with more comments for the court.
“Have you even read any of the affidavits?” David asked.
Mr Coghlan responded that the inch-thick paperwork filed by the fake lawyer Melanie had, “no relevance to the charges,” before adding, “Nothing raises an inkling of any type of defence for the charges or any reason Victorian laws don’t apply to Mr Pavilach just like everybody else.”
David wasn’t finished, adding, “You’re rejecting the truth of what is in the paperwork.”
Pavilach was slapped with a $1000 fine by Mr Coghlan, who deemed the amount adequate, highlighting the fact that Pavilach’s entourage had “wasted the court’s time.”
David was not done, telling the court, “Yous have a lot to learn about the legal system,” as he walked out of the courtroom.
