With a renewed focus on domestic tourism, many are contemplating exploring their own backyard these holidays.

Take a short drive from Mildura and you’ll find many places to unwind, including nice spots along the river to camp or throw a line.

Looking for the perfect Instagram snap? You can find that, too.

The towns of Sunraysia and the Mallee have plenty of reasons to visit.

Ouyen

One of the region’s newest drawcards, the Ouyen Lake is the product of this dryland farming community’s determination to have somewhere to cool off, take the boat out or go for a fish.

The lake opened in 2018 and its clear blue water makes it a perfect place to spend a summer afternoon.

Just off the Calder Hwy, you’ll also find the largest Mallee stump in Australia.

This Mallee Track town has plenty to offer visitors, including the Walpeup Memorial Hall, originally dedicated to those who served in World War I and home to a collection of historic photographs.

Green thumbs should also check out the Walpeup Dryland Garden for native trees and shrubs.

Then take the family for a journey on the Red Cliffs Historical Steam Railway.

Head back to town and find a nice cafe or, if you’re more inclined towards a glass, Cappa Stone Wines is the place to go.
