A Red Cliffs man allegedly sent a video of himself masturbating to a 15-year-old girl and encouraged her to send him sexual content, a court has heard.

Laurie Oliver, 19, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court seeking bail on multiple charges related to his alleged behaviour toward underaged girls, primarily on Snapchat.

The court heard Mr Oliver allegedly began speaking with an underage girl on social media in December last year.

Police claimed they knew of at least one meet up between Mr Oliver and an underaged girl occurring at Mildura Waves.

Police alleged Mr Oliver messaged several other underage girls on social media, some as young as 15, meeting them through the first alleged victim during January and February of this year.

Mr Oliver was arrested in March and his Red Cliffs bungalow was searched by police.

Police allege during the search they uncovered multiple devices with active chats with underage girls, including one with a 15-year-old girl where he was allegedly trying to arrange a meet up, expressed wanting to have sex with her and sent images of his penis.

Mr Oliver also allegedly sent a video to a child under the age of 16 of him masturbating.

Police opposed bail, saying they held concerns around the secluded nature of his suggested bail address.

Mr Oliver’s lawyer, Sasha Leon Molina, pointed to her client’s vulnerability behind bars and mental health issues as reasons why he should get bail.

Mr Oliver was denied bail by Magistrate Michael Coghlan and will next appear June 18 for a contest mention.

She also suggested a string of bail conditions that she believed could ensure Mr Oliver’s bail was without incident.

Magistrate Michael Coghlandenied bail to Mr Oliver, pointing to the strength of the prosecution case.

Mr Coghlan said of grave concern was the allegation that Mr Oliver sent a video of himself masturbating to a 15-year-old and trying to get her to reciprocate.

“I don’t intend to grant Mr Oliver bail today … there are no conditions I could put in place that could alleviate the risk of potential harm to young children by Mr Oliver.”

Mr Oliver is next scheduled to appear for a contest mention on June 18.
