A former AFL player has denied a raft of fraud-related charges levelled at him over his regional swimming pool business.

Former Port Adelaide and Carlton player Nick Stevens pleaded not guilty to charges of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage at the Mildura Magistrates Court today and is set to face the County Court in October.

At a two day committal hearing this week, 14 witnesses were called to give evidence over multiple charges alleging that, between June 27, 2017 and November 28, 2017, Stevens obtained almost $145,000 to install swimming pools in Mildura, but used the money for other purposes.

He was also charged with one count each of making and using a false document and a further three deception charges.

Stevens appeared only briefly at the end of the hearing to enter his plea of not guilty and was bailed to his Abbotsford address until his next appearance.

Stevens’ next appearance will be a directions hearing over the matters at the Mildura County Court on 6 October.
