Mildura woman Mata Havea stalked, assaulted victims and sent vile threats during crime spree
A Mildura woman terrorised multiple victims, punching one in the head 20 times and sending abusive messages threatening their life, a court has heard.

A Mildura woman has admitted to sending abusive text messages and assaulting several people during a violent spree, a court has heard.
Mata Havea, 35, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to stalking, assault and threats to kill charges.
One of the messages sent to a victim read: “I love tormenting the f--- out of you. ... When you die, it’s going to bring peace to the world.”
Police claimed Ms Havea had assaulted another person by punching them in the head more than 20 times and in another alleged incident,
Ms Havea’s physical abuse led one of her victims to attempt suicide.
Havea’s lawyer Asher Zomer asked the court for leniency when sentencing her client saying her client would “continue to be punished long after the matter is resolved”.
Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Raef Oliver stressed the seriousness of Havea’s offending, saying a head sentence in combination with a community corrections order (CCO) was within range.
Havea was assessed as suitable for a CCO and told the court she had come to the realisation she would need to be on medication to control her mental illness for the rest of her life.
Magistrate Patrick Southey sentenced Havea to 51 days behind bars, reckoned as time served, and a two year CCO.
