A mum of six slapped an assistant principal in the face at a Mildura primary school, before assaulting a Centrelink worker and hurling a cash register at a Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS) worker, a court heard.
Lisa Stone, 35, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court pleading guilty to multiple charges relating to incidents at across the northern Victorian town.
The court heard Stone attended Mildura West Primary School at 2.55pm on August 27, appearing to be heavily substance affected and loitering on the school grounds.
An assistant principal at the school approached Stone to offer assistance and was slapped in her face for her trouble.
A month later, Stone arrived at Centrelink on Deakin Ave and got agitated at the person sitting at the customer service desk.
After being asked to leave, Stone pulled the perspex screen protector back and flung it at the person asking her to leave, causing the screen to smash into their face.
Just minutes later, Stone re-attended Centrelink and attempted to get inside. When she was stopped, she punched the same Centrelink employee in the face.
Some 20 minutes after that incident, the court heard Stone went to the Mallee District Aboriginal Services kitchen and asked for some food. After being told she would need to come back in about half an hour, Stone threw a cash register at a MDAS worker and tried to punch another.
Stone sat stoic in court, either looking straight ahead or at the ground as the summary was being read.
Hugh Middleton, who represented Stone, told the court of the 35-year-old’s mental health issues and other struggles and urged the court to give her a Community Corrections Order (CCO).
Magistrate Michael Coghlan told Stone that it was “no good biting the hand that feeds you,” referencing the MDAS incident.
He also urged Stone to get a hold of her addiction issues and that would help her with her mental health matters.
Mr Coghlan sentenced Stone to a 12 month community corrections order.
