A drugged-up Mildura thug’s violent, meth-fuelled attacks left deep scars on his victim with the trauma still haunting her daily, a court has heard.

Truck driver Jordan Newson-Marukic pleaded guilty to several charges including stalking, unlawful assault and assault with a weapon at Mildura Magistrates’ Court Monday.

A Victim Impact Statement read to the court outlined how Newson-Marukic’s offending had a lasting impact on his victim.

“All the injuries on my body are a constant reminder. I feel like I can’t trust anybody anymore,” the statement read.

The statement went on to outline how the offending had left the victim with constant nightmares and crippling anxiety, adding she had suicidal thoughts when she was at her lowest.

In one of the violent incidents, Newson-Marukic drove off at 60km/h while the victim clung to his car, leaving her with permanent scars.

In another incident, he punched her in the face twice, resulting in severe bruising and a black eye.

Newson-Marukic’s lawyer Bert Hilton-Wood told the court his client’s offending happened while he was under the influence of methamphetamine, adding his client had stopped using drugs since he had been in jail.

The court heard how Newson-Marukic’s offending left one of his victims scarred both physically and mentally.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said drugs turned Newson-Marukic into a monster.

“You’ve got to turn your life around. You’re 27. It’s time to man up and get off drugs. You owe it to your child. He doesn’t want an ice-using, woman-beating father,” Mr Southey said.

“If you can get off drugs, I think you have a good chance of becoming a normal person. I don’t think you’re really a monster. It’s definitely the ice.”

Mr Southey sentenced Newson-Marukic to 12 months behind bars, with a six-month non-parole period.

With 63 days reckoned as pre-sentence detention, Newson-Marukic will be eligible for parole in late February 2025.
