A Mildura crook ran a meth operation out of his rental house, hiding the substance and GHB in a secret trapdoor.
Jesse Roberg fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court after police discovered more than 40 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a concealed compartment at the home he shared with his on-again, off-again girlfriend.
He pleaded guilty to the charges.
Police also found vials of GHB, multiple plungers, deal bags of cannabis and a string of texts on Roberg’s phone indicating he was trafficking meth around Mildura.
Roberg handed police the pin code to his phone after his arrest, a move his lawyer said showed Roberg was not the ringleader of the operation.
Roberg’s lawyer, Peter Delorenzo, told the court his client had an intellectual disability and this was his first time facing trafficking charges.
Mr Delorenzo pointed to Roberg’s willingness to co-operate with police.
Mr Delorenzo suggested Roberg could move to his father’s place in Menindee, NSW, under a deferred sentence.
Magistrate Falla rejected that proposal, pointing to the sheer quantity and variety of drugs seized.
“I consider this to be serious offending,” Ms Falla said, indicating that Roberg would receive a combination of prison time and a community corrections order with a justice plan.
Roberg will remain behind bars to be assessed for the justice plan and will be sentenced on August 27.
