A Mildura mechanic has been told to stay away from drugs after he was caught driving a “ridiculous” vehicle while carrying meth.

Daniel Prevedello, 36, was pulled over by police on December 7 last year for driving an unregistered, unroadworthy vehicle without a license.

After searching Prevedello, the police found 8.2g of methamphetamine which he said was for use over Christmas.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said it was “truly alarming” but didn’t feel the law breaking warranted jail.

“Drugs are ruining your life, you’ve been found in possession of a large amount,” he said.

“Driving unlicensed in just the most ridiculous vehicle, you’ve got to get your act together.

“This order reflects that it’s serious but it’s mainly designed to help you get back on track.”

When speaking to his defence, Prevedello’s lawyer spoke about how the 36-year-old had been clean for a number of months and that he wanted to stay that way.

“It’s my understanding that he has been clean since the second of December, broadly, your honour, he’s taken some action to combat this,” he said.

“He started working with Sunraysia community health service and previously MDAS.

“He is also a qualified diesel mechanic.”

Mr Prevedello was placed on a community corrections order for 12 months and fined $250 for driving an unroadworthy vehicle.
