A Mildura crook was busted behind the wheel of a car with morphine tablets and a glass pipe while still on appeal bail, a court has heard.
Zac Tatchell fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to charges of possession of morphine, driving while disqualified and breach of bail.
The court heard since he was locked up for his reoffending he had withdrawn his appeal bail application.
Tatchell was busted by police in the early hours on a Saturday behind the wheel of a white Holden sedan.
Police said it appeared Tatchell and his passenger made a hasty exit from the vehicle once they noticed police officers and tried to walk away from the scene.
A search of the vehicle Tatchell and his passenger were in uncovered a glass pipe, while a jacket in his possession contained several morphine tablets.
When he was questioned by police at the time about the morphine tablets, he denied any knowledge of them.
“Why would I consent to a search if I knew they were in there,” Tatchell said to police.
Tatchell’s lawyer told Magistrate Patrick Southey his client had withdrawn his application for an appeal on the sentence from February and was hoping for concurrency on the new charges.
“It is similarly offending, Your Honour,” Mr Rattray told the court.
Mr Southey said he was disappointed Tatchell had offended again after appealing the sentence he had given him.
“It is incredibly disappointing that you appealed my sentence and then you went and did it again,” Mr Southey said.
“You said you were going to get your act together, are you actually going to do it one day?”
“(Once this is over) “I am going to get out of Mildura, your honour,” Tatchell replied.
Tatchell was given a 41 day sentence, reckoned as time served, although he will remain behind bars serving the sentence that was given to him back in February.
