A serial thief with a penchant for stealing booze has again fronted court after he was caught pilfering alcohol from Mildura bottle shops.

Samuel Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to charges of theft in the Mildura Magistrates’ Court and was convicted and fined $500.

The court heard that at 3pm on May 31, Kilpatrick was busted by the store manager after he tried to leave a bottle shop with two one litre bottles of Captain Morgan’s spiced rum without paying

The manager grabbed him from behind and Kilpatrick dropped one of the bottles before escaping with the other bottle.

The court heard that on February 23 Kilpatrick grabbed a one litre and a 750ml bottle of Captain Morgan‘s spiced rum and left the store without paying.

Kilpatrick’s lawyer Anne Hennessy submitted to the court this client has been dealing with some medical complications after being hit by a car

“He’s grown up in Robinvale and has been in hospital after being hit by a car and he has been in The Alfred for a few months for lesions on his lungs,” she said.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan said he clearly has some issues to work on

“It’s clear that you’ve got a problem with alcohol, but you haven’t been in trouble for a while until this year,” he said.

Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to both charges of theft and was convicted and fined $500.
