A Mildura father who stole a set of slides from Kmart and attempted to evade police on more than one occasion has been slammed in court.

Ryley Chisholm, 22, pleaded guilty at Mildura Magistrates’ Court on October 16 to two charges of theft, criminal damage, driving with false license plates, for evading police on multiple occasions, for damaging an unmarked cop car and for committing indictable offences while on bail.

Chisholm was seen by Kmart staff stealing a set of black Everlast slides on September 11, after entering the store with no shoes on.

He entered the store wearing socks, selected the pair of slides before putting them on his feet and walking out of the store, making no effort to pay.

A staff member saw him get into a black Holden Commodore, giving police the licence plate numbers.

Chisholm’s sticky fingers struck again on a later date, when he filled up the same black Commodore with $99.21 of petrol and drove away from the petrol station without attempting to pay.

Chisholm was identified through CCTV footage from the servo.

Two officers in an unmarked police car caught up with Chisholm a few days later when they saw him driving without registration plates and a broken tail light.

When they directed him to pull over, Chisholm reversed quickly, landing himself in a ditch.

He accelerated and collided with the unmarked cop car, significantly damaging the passenger side panel.

Chisholm’s luck ran out on Friday, October 13 when police detected him driving his black Commodore with stolen plates.

Trapping the slippery Chisholm in a court, police used a tyre deflation device to foil his second getaway attempt.

He accelerated, mounting the kerb, again determined to avoid police, but was arrested and taken into custody.

Appearing in the docks on Monday, Chisholm was slammed by Magistrate Michael Coghlan for his offending.

“You’ve got a young child, what the hell are you doing acting like this?” Mr Coghlan said.

Chisholm was released from custody on a 12 month community corrections order.

He will undertake 100 hours of unpaid community work and his license has been disqualified for eight months.
