Ignatius Alvanos and Tyren King fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court on October 24 over the theft of multiple electronics from inside a car in September.

Alvanos pleaded guilty to one charge of negligently dealing with proceeds of crime, one charge of possessing firearms ammunition while being a prohibited person and one charge of committing an indictable offence while on bail.

The court heard a Hyundai i30 parked outside a Mildura home was broken into on the evening of September 7.

The victim reported the break-in and theft of multiple items to police, which included a backpack, a MacBook laptop, an iPad, airpods and a stylus pen.

Police began tracking the electronic items, leading them to Alvanos and Mr King’s homes.

In a search of Alvanos’ property, police found the backpack, the MacBook, the iPad and the stylus pen.

They also found multiple packets of .22 ammunition, a retractable credit card knife and a homemade taser.

Alvanos was arrested and later told police Mr King had allegedly brought the stolen items to his home.

The court heard Alvanos had been prohibited from owning or possessing a weapon or ammunition from 2021 until 2031.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said there was a silver lining with Alvanos’ offending.

“If you look on the bright side, this is the least serious trouble you’ve ever got into,” he said.

The court heard Alvanos had significant priors, including drug trafficking, multiple convictions on weapons charges and more.

“It would be better if you stopped getting into trouble all together,” Mr Southey said.

Alvanos was convicted and fined $700 as well as $136.70 in costs.

Mr King is set to return to court later in the month.
