A Mildura criminal seems to prefer being in custody, spitting blood on police officers as they tried to release him.

A Mildura criminal seems to prefer being in custody, after he spat blood on officers as he was being released.

Daryl Robinson has once again found himself appearing before Mildura Magistrates’ Court after a series of incidents that started off with him throwing rocks at cars.

On August 19, police were called to the scene of a potentially drug affected man throwing rocks at cars.

There they found Robinson, who approached the driver’s side window of the police car and punched the glass with force before hurling verbal abuse at the officers and punching the front window.

After spending a night in the cells, Robinson was bailed but as officers tried to release him he spat on them and raised his fists.

Robinson, who the court heard was a carrier of hepatitis, had blood in his mouth and attempted to spit on police again.

Once returned to the cells Robinson stripped naked and began to defecate in the cell before smearing excrement on the walls and covering the CCTV camera with toilet paper.

Defence lawyer Sasha Tuliakiono said some of his behaviour could be explained by a mental disorder.

“He’s got front temporal lobe dementia which makes him behave in strange ways,” she said.

Robinson pleaded guilty.

Magistrate Patrick Southey released after Robinson 19 days in custody and ordered him to pay $100 cost for the damage to the cells.

“19 days seems appropriate, I wish there was a better option (but) we can’t just lock you up forever” he said.

“I’ll fine you $100 cost for your disgusting behaviour in the cells.”
