They’re the depraved criminals whose vile acts made Mildura’s skin crawl.

Here are some of Mildura’s most shocking sex offenders.

Cameron O’Brien

A serial Mildura sex pest who was out on bail for a sexual assault when he violated a child was jailed in August.

Cameron O’Brien, 29, was sentenced in the County Court to a minimum three years and 11 months’ jail time after pleading guilty to sexual assault and penetration of a child under 16.

O’Brien was arrested and remanded shortly after assaulting his first victim in mid-2019, the court was told.

However, O’Brien was bailed and on the streets when he sexually penetrated his child victim more than 12 months later.

O’Brien, a boilermaker and dirt bike enthusiast, bail was eventually revoked in February this year.

He was made a registered sex offender for life, was jailed for a maximum five years and three months.

Luis Jesus Rosales Rosales

A backpacker attending a Mildura house party sexually assaulted another partygoer who had gone to sleep in one of the bedrooms.

Luis Jesus Rosales Rosales, 27, was jailed in February for four months on a charge of intentionally sexually touching a woman without her consent in circumstances where he did not reasonably believe there was consent.

Rosales unzipped a woman’s pants and touched her bra while she was sleeping after she had avoided dancing with him earlier in the night.

The victim woke, noticed a shadow over the bed and began waking the other woman, telling her someone was in the room.

After a light was turned on, Rosales was on the floor pretending to sleep.

Rosales was a working holiday visa holder.

Nathan Doherty

A Mildura teen who filmed a schoolgirl sex attack while he ran amok sexually assaulting several underage victims was spared further jail time earlier.

Nathan Doherty, 20, was sentenced in the County Court to six months’ jail in March after pleading guilty to charges including five counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16 but did not spend any more time behind bars after already serving 185 days.

On one occasion, Doherty lured a 13-year-old victim to Kenny Park in Merbein after convincing the schoolgirl into believing he would provide her “comfort” after she had a fight with her mum.

Doherty met another victim at a cafe then took her to the Mildura waterfront.

Doherty sexually penetrated his victim multiple times before fleeing in a taxi and leaving his 15-year-old victim to walk to a friend’s house.

He also sexually penetrated a third victim.

Doherty was also served a 30-month community correction order and made a registered sex offender for life.

Joshua Baird

A Swan Hill paedophile who groomed 36 children online, encouraging them to send him sexually explicit images, was jailed for five years in September.

Joshua Baird, 26, pleaded guilty to 56 charges related to grooming and child porn and was placed on the sex offender’s list for life in Mildura’s County Court.

Baird was caught in October 2019 when a Canadian mother found a series of conversations between her 14-year-old daughter and a username ‘Bairdy888’ on Instagram, Snapchat and the messenger app kik.

She took about 600 screenshots of the conversations, which included multiple requests for explicit photos, explicit and videos photos of ‘Bairdy888’, child and adult pornography and an offer by ‘Bairdy888’ to host the victim in Australia.

She also sent the screenshots to Canadian police.

Over a three-month police investigation, it was found ‘Bairdy888’ was Joshua Baird of Swan Hill.

Joshua McDonald

A Victorian cattle farmer who groomed multiple underage girls including threatening to physically harm a victim if she didn’t send him explicit photos avoided a jail term in November.

Joshua McDonald, 22, was sentenced in the County Court to a 42-month community correction order after pleading guilty to charges including soliciting child abuse material.

McDonald, of Yaapeet, was 20 when he committed the crimes against multiple girls aged under 16 between September 2019 and January last year.

He repeatedly called and texted a 14-year-old girl, asking her to have sex with him and send him explicit photos.

He called her a “sl*t” for having already had sex, telling her she only wasn’t one if she had sex with him.

McDonald further told the girl he would expose her as a “hoe” if she didn’t send him nude photos, threatening her harm when she refused.

Corey Curnow

A man dropped his pants and masturbated in the presence of a woman weeks after a court appearance for a similar offence.

Ouyen man Corey Curnow, 27, pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity directed at another person in February.

The pleas related to two incidents, the first in Mildura on December 10 last year and a second in Ouyen.

Police told the court the most recent incident occurred at the Caltex service station in Farrell St at about 8.30am.

A female witness saw Curnow by himself under the carport with his hands down his pants masturbating.

Police said after eye contact was made, Curnow pulled down his pants and exposed his genitalia.

The witness was said to be “disgusted”, especially as the act happened near a school around drop-off time.

In the Mildura incident, two teenage girls observed Curnow with his hands down his pants while sitting on grass in the Seventh St and Langtree Ave area, between the city’s CBD and riverfront.

He was sentenced to three months prison and a 12-month community corrections order upon his release.

He was registered as a sex offender for eight years.

Darryl Nicholson

Woorinen South man Darryl Nicholson was sentenced to three years jail with two suspended after he indecently assaulted a child over a seven-year period in the 1970s.

He pleaded guilty to charges of indecent assault and buggery of a person under 14 in the Mildura County Court.

Nicholson’s assaults began on his victim when he was 14 and his victim was five.

But the attacks lasted years. They came to light in 2019 when his victim made statements to police.

Nicholson’s victim told the court he had a loving carefree childhood that was ripped away from him.

“The mindset I had to adopt still impacts my life to this day,” he said.
