Illicit Firearms Squad Mildura Arrests

A former solar farm worker has been fined after police found explosives and firearms at his Mildura home late last year.

Ignatius Michael Alvanos, 35, pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm, possessing firecrackers and committing an offence while on bail in the Mildura Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The court heard Alvanos believed the gel blaster found was a child’s toy left by his nephew.

Police raided Alvanos’ house last year where they found the gel blaster and multiple firecrackers.

The court heard Alvanos admitted to picking up the firecrackers and he just “hadn’t thrown them away”.

He also told police he believed the gel blaster gun was a child’s toy left at his home by his nephew.

The magistrate ordered the destruction of all the explosives and firearms and fined Alvanos $600 for possessing the gel blaster, $200 for the firecrackers and $200 for committing an offence while on bail.
