From a “silly” thief who stole from a Mildura outdoor shop to a man who had one too many before getting behind the wheel, these are the cases to appear before Mildura Magistrates Court this week.

Kevin Johnson

A man who stole fish hooks and lures from a Mildura outdoor store has been fined.

Kevin Johnson, 31, faced Mildura Magistrates Court on Monday facing theft charges.

The court heard he had been under investigation since December of 2020 for multiple alleged shop thefts, thefts of motor vehicles, trailer thefts and chainsaws among other items.

Johnson pleaded guilty to one charge of theft after he was busted by a store assistant at Anaconda, Mildura in November last year.

Johnson was convicted and fined $250 for stealing the $60 worth of fishing hooks and lures.

The court heard Johnson admitted to the theft saying “it was really silly”.

Johnson will return to court in August for a hearing relating to charges over serious alleged thefts around the Mildura and Robinvale area.

Kolbi Ridley

A man has been jailed for stealing cars in the Robinvale region earlier this year.

Kolbi Ridley, 21, appeared in the Mildura Magistrates Court on Monday facing multiple theft of motor vehicle charges and one charge of driving while disqualified.

The court heard one of the cars Ridley stole was found burnt out on the side of the road.

Ridley stole two cars in May this year and after police found him driving one of the stolen vehicles denied knowing it was stolen, the court heard.

Ridley was convicted and sentenced to 21 days in prison, 19 of which he had already served and was disqualified from driving for 14 days.

Kris Tipton

A salt mine worker who recently moved to Mildura has been fined for punching a hole in the wall of his house after his partner broke up with him, a court has heard.

Kris Tipton faced the Mildura Magistrates Court on Tuesday facing charges of causing criminal damage, possessing drugs and driving while disqualified.

In December last year, the court heard that Tipton’s partner woke him to tell him the relationship was “not working out”.

He responded by punching a hole in the wall and throwing items around the room.

The court heard Tipton paid to have the wall fixed the next day.

In May this year Tipton was pulled over by police and provided them with a false name and details.

Later checks revealed Tipton was disqualified from driving in Victoria.

A search of Tipton’s car also uncovered .7 grams of meth.

He was convicted and fined $300 for causing the criminal damage, $300 for the possession of meth and $600 for driving while disqualified and providing false details to police.
