A Mildura man allegedly raped a woman after subjecting to her to a prolonged attack over several days, a court has heard.
Jordan Blair fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court seeking bail for charges including attempted rape, rape, intentionally causing injury, reckless conduct, and aggravated burglary.
Police allege in May 2024 Mr Blair subjected the woman to severe violence over the course of a weekend, including accusations that he attempted to sexually assault her before ramping up the violence.
Police also claim Mr Blair took images of the incident and that a young child was present in another room at the time.
On May 10, Mr Blair is alleged to have begun the assault with multiple slaps and punches to the woman’s rib cage.
The incident escalated, according to police, with claims he attempted to strangle the woman, struck her head with a phone, allegedly leaving glass embedded in her skull.
Mr Blair allegedly placed the woman in a shower, repeatedly kicking her with steel-capped boots.
“I’m going to wait for you to recover and then come back and do this to you again,” police claimed he told the woman
The following day, police claim Mr Blair returned and again threatened the woman, allegedly attempting to rape her, before raping her.
The court heard Mr Blair allegedly told the alleged victim he could, “roll her over for 10 minutes so he could f--k her.”
Police discovered the woman and the accused after a triple-0 phone call from a co-worker of the alleged victim.
The woman was allegedly found with visible bruising and injuries, including a fractured orbital bone, memory loss, and nerve damage, requiring surgery at The Alfred hospital in Melbourne.
Mr Blair was supported by his mother, his sister and his girlfriend in court.
Mr Blair reportedly admitted to some of the actions, telling police he had slapped the woman twice but insisted their sexual encounter was consensual.
When asked if he strangled her Mr Blair purportedly told police, “Maybe I could have, I don’t remember. He also allegedly told police the alleged victim demanded he hit her.
Police opposed bail, citing high risk to the woman’s safety.
“There would be nothing that would alleviate my concerns (for Mr Blair to receive bail). I believe he is capable of killing her,” Detective Senior Constable Sarah Dosen told the court.
Mr Blair’s lawyer argued for bail, noting his client had not previously served a prison sentence and suggesting that the rape allegation was only reported some time after the initial incident.
Magistrate Patrick Southey denied bail, however, citing the risk to the community.
“I don’t believe any court in the state would grant him bail. The risk is completely unacceptable; there are no compelling reasons,” Magistrate Southey said.
Mr Blair is scheduled to return to court for a committal mention on December 3.
