A Mildura man has fronted court for allegedly endangering police officers with reckless behaviour in the latest in a string of alleged car thefts.

Jessy Brown, 19, is also facing alleged charges of driving while disqualified, driving an unregistered vehicle and theft of a motor vehicle.

The court heard that on April 11 Mildura police officers witnessed Mr Brown getting into the driver’s seat of a silver Mazda sedan they were observing.

When police approached the vehicle and attempted to engage with Mr Brown, he allegedly started the car and took off at excessive speed, allegedly putting officers in danger.

Police located him at an Etiwanda Ave address the following day and he was subsequently arrested.

It was alleged that prior to his arrest that Mr Brown was involved in the theft of a Ford Courier in early March, along with the alleged theft of another car last month.

Police claim they can link Mr Brown to the vehicles through a combination of CCTV, mobile phone videos and forensic evidence.

The court heard of Mr Brown’s struggle with his methylamphetamine addiction and how he had attempted rehab, but had not completed it.

Mr Brown declined a sentence indication from Magistrate Rose Falla and his next court appearance is slated for June 12.
