A father of three has been arrested by police after allegedly being found in possession of drugs, ammunition and firearms at a Mildura holiday park.
Jayden Day fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court in an attempt to get bail on Monday afternoon.
Mr Day was arrested on Sunday after staff at the NRMA Mildura Riverside Holiday Park alerted patrolling officers to suspicious activity at one of their cabins.
The court heard police found Mr Day, a part-time fencing contractor, lying on the bed in the master bedroom of the cabin.
He allegedly refused to provide passwords to his electronic devices.
Police said a search of the cabin uncovered drugs, 47 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition, and a silver handgun.
They also claim they discovered a number plate from a stolen vehicle, which had been destroyed and discarded in a garbage bin at the property.
The drugs found were allegedly identified as being methylamphetamine and GHB.
Police stated Mr Day admitted to being aware of the firearm and to having handled it recently. He also allegedly acknowledged ownership of the laptop but made no admissions regarding the drugs.
During the hearing, Magistrate Michael Coghlan reprimanded Mr Day, noting that firearms and ammunition charges had become a “common theme” with him.
Mr Day was granted bail under strict conditions, including a curfew and regular reporting to police, ahead of his next court appearance on September 11.
“You’re on the absolute edge. The chances are, Mr Day, if I see you again, you won’t be going home. Pull your head in,” Mr Coghlan warned as he granted bail.
