Jail forregistered sex offender Palbas Dimitrios over drug use and secret social media accounts

Using meth gave a registered Mildura sex offender “urges” - here’s what happened when he was busted with an array of drugs including a sex enhancer.

Australia's Court System

A registered Mildura sex offender has been sentenced over failure to report social media accounts to police and for possessing drugs.

Dimitrios Palbas, 34, faced the Mildura Magistrates Court on Thursday pleading guilty to contravening his prohibition order, possessing meth, Viagra, cannabis and steroids and committing an indictable offence while on bail. He was sentenced to 42 days behind bars.

The court heard that Palbas got “sexual urges” when he used meth.

In March, Palbas was found with drug paraphernalia, growth hormones, meth and cannabis, all uncovered during a search of his address.

During this search police also uncovered a Snapchat account which had not been reported to police which he was required to do due to being a registered sex offender since 2019.

An inspection of the Snapchat account revealed a video of Palbas using an ice pipe.

Viagra tablets were found at a later search during which the police also uncovered email and Snapchat accounts that had not been reported to police.

A further search of these accounts uncovered a photo of 76 grams of meth and more videos of him smoking the meth.

Palbas was not charged with the possession of the 76 grams of meth.

He denied the large amount of meth was his, he just took a photo of it “because of the amount”.

Palbas’s defence argued even though unreported social media accounts had been found there was no evidence to suggest Palbas had used them to communicate with anybody, they just contained photos and videos of his drug use.

His defence told the court Palbas had an “unhealthy addiction to the use of methamphetamine” but that he was “crying out for help”.

His defence also told the court that Palbas had admitted when he used meth it bought about “sexual urges”.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan said Palbas should “seek to address issues” relating to his drug use with “proactive steps”.

Palbas was convicted and released due to time served.
