A court has been shown horrific footage of a Mildura man punching a woman with incredible “force” before knocking her to the ground, all because he “hadn’t slept for four days”.

A Mildura man brutally attacked a woman in her own home after a drug and alcohol binge saw him go without sleep for four days.

Jahvid Gadd, a diagnosed schizophrenic, pleaded guilty in Mildura Magistrates Court on Monday to charges including two counts of common law assault, and one of discharging missiles.

The court heard on the weekend of May 18, the 32-year-old, jumped the back fence and banged on the door of a Mildura home.

When a woman told him to keep it down because children were sleeping, he launched a violent attack.

CCTV showed Gadd punching the victim in the head several times, violently slamming her to the ground, and kicking her in the head.

Gadd appeared unmoved by the footage, looking stony-faced at the AV link camera.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said he was shocked by the attack.

“What struck me was the force of the first punch and how forcefully he threw her on the ground,” he said.

Police prosecutor Matt Pardon said the “scariest” part of the attack was the kick.

The following day, Gadd was seen throwing rocks at the victim by a member of the public, who reported the unprovoked follow-up attack to police.

Gadd fled to Adelaide after the attack, violating a sex offenders register order he received back in 2012.

He was arrested in South Australia at a Davoren Park address by Victoria Police on May 30.

When police questioned Gadd, he claimed to have no memory of the attack.

The court was told Gadd was apologetic when he was shown the footage, but denied the rock-throwing attack took place.

Gadd’s lawyer spoke of his mental health struggles, while a supporter of his in court said the attack occurred after Gadd had been binge drinking and taking a lot of drugs.

“He hadn’t slept for four days,” they told the magistrate.

After a brief break in proceedings, it was determined Gadd was unsuitable for a community corrections order.

Mr Southey told Gadd he wasn’t a lost cause and if he hadn’t pleaded guilty, he would have received seven months behind bars.

He admonished Gadd’s behaviour, saying the video shocked everyone who saw it.

“All of us who watched the footage were shocked, appalled, and sickened,” Mr Southey said.

Gadd was sentenced to four months in prison. With 18 days reckoned as time served, he is likely to be released in early October.
