A Mildura mum allegedly collided with police vehicles during a high-speed chase on the wrong side of a busy road, a court has heard.

Felicia Kirby, 41, appeared before Mildura Magistrates’ Court seeking bail on allegations of dangerous driving and multiple shop theft offences.

Police claimed Ms Kirby allegedly drove a Mazda CX-9 erratically on the wrong side of busy Mildura road while being chased by police.

She is also accused of mounting footpaths and nature strips during the pursuit.

The court heard Ms Kirby allegedly clipped one police vehicle and collided with another during the alleged incident before stopping at a Red Cliffs address, where she was arrested.

Police allege Ms Kirby was part of a spree of thefts, including stealing more than 25 bottles of Jack Daniels from multiple BWS stores on several ocassions across Sunraysia and Melbourne.

Other alleged thefts involved thousands of dollars’ worth of goods from Coles, Rebel Sport, Dan Murphy’s, Bunnings, TK Maxx, and Jaycar.

Magistrate Patrick Southey called the scale of the alleged thefts “astonishing” and “vast.”

Police prosecutor Lauren Abson argued strongly against bail, citing the community risk posed by Ms Kirby’s alleged driving offences and concerns about her compliance with bail conditions.

“The accused shows absolute disregard for court orders imposed on her,” Ms Abson said. “Police are convinced she will not appear in accordance with her bail conditions.”

Defence lawyer William Maguet said Ms Kirby’s struggles with grief following her husband’s 2019 death should be considered in her bail application and suggested she could report to police three times a week as a condition of her bail.

However, Mr Southey denied bail, pointing to the alleged driving offences as a significant factor.

“I am going to refuse bail, Ms Kirby. It’s the driving offences that really trouble me. Particularly if she is highly likely to be affected by drugs or alcohol,” Mr Southey said.

“The alleged offending is prolific. Even when you’re supposed to be looking after your kid, you’re alleged to be roaming all over Melbourne and Swan Hill,” he said.

Ms Kirby is next scheduled to appear in court on December 5.
