A court will hear evidence over three days relating to the death of an infant in Mildura earlier this year.

Evander Wilson, charged with the murder of son Jakobi Wilson on April 11, appeared before Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday by video link, to schedule dates for a committal hearing.

Wilson’s lawyer Rebecca Boreham had sought five days for the hearing to take place.

When the matter was before the court last month, Magistrate Michael Coghlan was reluctant to set aside five days of the court’s time.

Mr Coghlan said there were no witnesses to the incident that resulted in the death of the child.

The court was told examination of medical witnesses should take between one and one and a half days.

Mr Coghlan had adjourned the matter to Tuesday’s special mention, when he decided three days would be appropriate.

The committal hearing will be held from July 14 to 16 at Mildura Magistrates’ Court.

Mr Coghlan asked Wilson to attend the court in person, subject to health directions at the time.
