An early morning house fire on Eleventh St has sent smoke billowing across the Mildura sky.
Victoria Police, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) and the CFA all attended the scene on Tuesday morning but could barely be seen by onlookers as thick smoke from the fire engulfed areas surrounding the house.
“I heard an explosion, and the next thing I knew there was smoke everywhere,” one neighbour said while rushing down the street.
“I heard all the sirens and thought, that must be close, so I came outside and saw all the smoke,” another neighbour added.
An FRV spokesman said the blaze was under control as of 9.30am. A search of the property revealed no occupants inside the house.
“Firefighters arrived on the scene within five minutes to find a single-storey house with a tin roof fully involved,” the FRV spokesman told the Herald Sun.
“FRV and CFA crews wore breathing apparatus to contain the blaze, and the scene was declared under control at 9.30am.”
Firefighters remained at the scene to fully extinguish the blaze, and the CFA confirmed they had dispatched one unit to assist FRV.
Victoria Police have been contacted for comment.
