A Mildura man allegedly punched a woman in the face before pouring petrol on her clothes and threatened to kill her, a court has heard.

Darcy Urquhart, 37, was denied bail in the Mildura Magistrates Court on Wednesday over a string of charges including theft, assault, possessing drugs and other charges.

The court heard in December last year Urquhart allegedly assaulted a woman in Robinvale.

When Urquhart was being questioned it is alleged police found 0.30 grams of meth and 20 grams of cannabis in his possession.

In April Urquhart and another person also allegedly broke into a home and “ransacked” every room in April this year.

Police allege they stole $8000 in cash and other personal items including passports and bank cards.

On a separate occasion it is alleged Urquhart gained entry to a home by kicking a hole in the door and then using that hole to unlock the door.

Once inside he allegedly used tools to pry open filing cabinets, stealing $200 before allegedly smashing the window of the victims car and rummaging through their belongings.

Urquhart also allegedly stole from two cars, cash, netball equipment and a whipper-snipper.

Later searches of Urquharts home allegedly found him in possession of multiple stolen items including a Dyson hair straightening kit, a Samsung galaxy tablet, a branded watch and handbag among other items.

In court documents police allege Urquhart is “violent” “whose life is ruled by his drug use”.

Urquhart told the court he wanted to live in Robinvale.

“I don’t get into trouble when I am up there,” he said.

However despite his pleas the magistrate said he was not willing to grant Urquhart bail and he will return to court at a later date.
