New low-cost airline Bonza is offering one Mildura local the chance to take flight with their airline before anyone else.
The airline, which is still yet to announce a take off date, said on Wednesday it was looking to crown someone from Mildura a “Bonza Legend”.
Being a Bonza legend would mean free VIP flights on the first-ever flight from Mildura (with three other mates or family members).
In addition, Bonza intends to work with the appointed legend to help put the region firmly on the map through a range of other engagements, help identify deserving members of the community to also be on the inaugural flight, join important taste testing of the all Aussie menu and road test the airline’s first ever uniform.
The person selected in Mildura will join a group of 16 other legends – one from each destination on Bonza’s route map.
The campaign aims to provide a platform for the airline to work with locals and tourism destination marketing organisations to support inbound tourism to their 17 destinations and 27 routes – 85 per cent of which are not currently served by any airline and 96 per cent of which are not currently served by a low-cost airline.
Mildura locals are encouraged to upload a 30 second or less video to Facebook or Instagram to show fellow Aussies why they should visit on holiday.
The intention is also that the legends get to feature in upcoming video content promoting destinations that locals can visit with a direct low-cost Bonza flight (Sunshine Coast and Melbourne).
Speaking on Wednesday, Bonza chief commercial officer Carly Povey, said: “If you’re a legend, larrikin, personality about town – come forward. We’re looking for big hearts, welcoming arms and people who aren’t shy to give it a go and promote their slice of Allstralia.”
“We are about creating new markets for Australia’s domestic tourism industry with a particular focus on regional locations. We’re an airline for teachers, tradies, kids and carers and we want to reflect that in the way we spotlight the many incredible destinations on our route map.”
Mildura Airport chief executive Trevor Willcock said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for one of our many talented locals to become an ambassador for our wonderful region. Mildura has so much to offer and a local legend can help to keep our region firmly on the tourist map by supporting Bonza to promote Mildura.”
Locals legends are encouraged to throw their hat in the ring by uploading a 30 second or less video to Facebook or Instagram tagging @FlyBonza with #BonzaLocalLegends.
